Down Under

Colin Hay (of Men At Work fame) is one of my musical heroes. Check out this great acoustic version of "Down Under". His shows are typically like this clip: solo acoustic with lengthy and amusing anecdotes between songs. I saw him live in Austin in a small club a couple of years back. There were perhaps 12 people in the audience. But he still gave a great show and hung out afterwards and was very friendly. To this day he possesses my favorite voice in rock. I'm glad he's getting some attention (finally) for his solo work. Enjoy...

While I have never been a huge fan of their entire body of work, I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for the band.

I listen to Sirius Radio, especially to a station they call Coffee House, which plays a lot of music befitting the name Coffee House. They also play a lot of his music including a studio acoustic recording of Down Under. I think it is a beautiful rendition and juxtaposes the somewhat comical 1980s version with the melancholy 2008 version. Completely changes the meaning of the song. I love it.

If you are interested in some of his solo acoustic CDs, I'd check out PEAKS AND VALLEYS and GOING SOMEWHERE. That studio acoustic version of "Down Under" you are talking about is on MAN @ WORK (bad title), as well as a gorgeous solo acoustic rendition of "Overkill", Men At Work's finest song. But I'd recommend those other two solo acoustic records.

Actually, i like "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin" as well as "Overkill" and a lot of songs on Going Somewhere. It's a great album.

We can all relate to "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin" can't we?

Thats right Evans, i'm outing myself as a Colin Hay fan. He was funny on scrubs and i like the way they redid "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin" as an ensemble song. Very touching.

Transcendental Highway has some good songs as well.

I agree his voice is great. He's no Dave Long, but it's warm and very genuine in that he doesn't alwasy hit the notes, but it's okay.
