Yes, I'm still here. Even better than me, The Cars are here again! I've been a huge fan of The Cars since the mid-80's. They are so underrated, probably my favorite New Wave band. Ric Ocasek is a pop genius. Anyway, May 10th we get a new Cars record, Move Like This. I've heard two songs so far, and I've got to tell you, I am quite excited about this. Four of the five original members are here (unfortunately bassist and vocalist on about half of their songs, Ben Orr, died years ago...although I've always preferred the tunes with Ocasek on vocals anyway). I think this will be excellent in part because it's not as if they have been out of practice. Although the group broke up in the late 80's, Ocasek has released a series of very interesting and often good solo records since, and the others have likewise been active. This record came about because Ocasek had a new batch of songs that he intended for a solo record but they just sounded so Cars to him he did what he swore he would never do and called the others up.
The single "Sad Song" is catchy as hell with that sharp Cars sound that would feel at home on Shake It Up or Candy-O. Below is the other song they've put out so far, "Blue Tip." If you are a fan of New Wave or the Cars, you will really dig this song. Can't wait for the record...
